Michael Bernard Fitzgerald Loves Vancouver

Last night Vancouver, we love you had the pleasure of supporting Michael Bernard Fitzgerald at The Biltmore, and we had a blast doing it. Opening the night was the lovely Steph Macpherson, who, we should mention, is also a Vancouver, we love you supporter! After the crowd was sufficiently warmed up and ready to rock MBF got on stage and gave a fantastic performance. All 300+ people there were enjoying it. Especially all the ones making out. Yeah, we all saw you.

Michael Bernard Fitzgerald At The Biltmore!

On this depressingly rainy Sunday afternoon we have some awesome news. We're very excited to announce Vancouver, we love you will be supporting Michael Bernard Fitzgerald at his show next week at The Biltmore! If you haven't listened to Michael's music, check it out, grab your tickets and come to the show. A Very Vancouver Valentine's Day

Looking for a fantastic date idea for your special someone this Valentine's Day? Are you wanting to ask someone out and are looking for a casual 'non-date but secretly hoping it's a date' location? Need a way to celebrate your singleness with other single friends? Want something fun to do on a limited budget? Not a problem, we here at Vancouver, we love you are looking out for you this holiday season! We've compiled a list of fun date ideas around Vancouver for February 14th no matter what you're looking to get out of the night. Because whether you're in a relationship or single this Valentine's day, Vancouver is always lovable. 

The Princess Bride at the Rio Theatre
Catch the classic movie and some great acoustic performances from JUNO Award nominated local band Said the Whale and Jasper Sloan Yip. Show starts at 7 pm. 
Tickets are $15 in advance. The best part... if you're single and drastically upset about that fact you can always just grab a seat in the darkened theatre and nobody will see you quietly crying to yourself the whole night.


The Candy Isle
Ok, so maybe this is a Willy Wonka fan's ideal Valentine's day date but who are we kidding, everybody loves candy. Or at least they should. Whether you're looking for a romantic date, friendly date, or even a solo date why not go visit a candy store? Spend your time looking through the unique assortment of candy options and international imports. It's simple fun and perfect for any budget size. And depending on your age you can even reminisce about the glorious candy you had as a kid... and then feel really old for saying something like that. After your purchase take a stroll around the city and enjoy eating your candy treasure. The walking will help burn off all the sugar you're eating.


Skating at Robson Square
Possibly one of the best things about hosting the 2010 Olympic Winter Games was the renovation of the Robson Square skating rink. A casual romantic setting and affordable on any budget, skating also provides the classic middle school excuse to hold any potential date's hand, especially if either of you are not an experienced skater. Score one for those lacking athletic ability or balance! Access to the rink is free and skate rentals are just $3. Open until 9pm Sunday-Thursday, and till 11pm Fridays and Saturdays. *Suggested romantic follow up... sitting down with a hot chocolate from the Starbucks across the street to warm up after.

Sushi At The Eatery
No matter who you are (or aren't) spending Valentine's Day with, The Eatery in Kits is the perfect place to celebrate the occasion over food. Casual enough for friends, 'just friends,' 'secretly want to be more than friends,' or 'clearly not just friends,' The Eatery's eclectic ambiance, candle lit tables and funky Japanese menu is a great fit for anyone. As their website says, "Make it a party, a romantic date or just have a bite to eat. You'll always have a good time at The Eatery."


Whatever you end up doing this Valentine's Day, just have fun. Whether you are madly in love with your soulmate or enjoying life unattached, remember it's only really just another day... so enjoy it.

Why We Love Vancouver - A Study

Our Vancouver, we love you [the t-shirt project] started out of a love for this city and a desire for more people to show off the pride they have for it. Mention to anyone anywhere else in the world that you live in Vancouver and you're looked at with admiration. There might even be a slight tinge of jealousy in their tone as they gush about how amazing Vancouver is, even if they've never been. Is it just because it's so crazy beautiful here? Is it the people that make it unique? What is it that makes Vancouver such a great place to actually live? Recently we came across an interesting report that studied why people love where they live and why it matters. It helped us understand what people love Vancouver so much.

According to the report, the main reason an individual loves the city he or she lives in is based on Community Attachment, "an emotional connection to a place that transcends satisfaction, loyalty, and even passion." The top three factors that determine this community attachment are:

• Social offerings — Places for people to meet each other and the feeling that people in the community care about each other

• Openness — How welcoming the community is to different types of people, including families with young children, minorities, and talented college graduates

• Aesthetics — The physical beauty of the community including the availability of parks and green spaces

If this is the criteria for why people love where they live, then it's pretty obvious why Vancouver's a winner. Our city has done a pretty good job of creating an amazing assortment of places to meet, and thanks to our city's multicultural fusion there truly is something for everyone. Vancouver also has the reputation of being open and welcoming to everyone, which is attractive. These findings also show that people love our city not just for the ocean and the mountains.
